Laser-Assisted Arthroscopic Debridement Operation of the Osteoarthritis of the Knee (A Preliminary Report)

Abstract
Arthroscopic joint debridement of the osteoarthritic knee is a well-documented procedure to alleviate symptoms and improve the knee joint function. Debridement operation include joint larvage, synovectomy, osteophyte removal, partial menisectomy,
notchplasty, multiple drilling and abrasion arthroplasty.
Multipe drilling procedure and abrasion arthroplasty give vascular access to the eburnated subchondral bone for regeneration of fibrocartilage. But in practice, the drilling is a technically demanding procedure and someties impossible to be
performed in
a loimited area of the knee joint. Control of abrasion depth in abrasion arthroplasty is still not an easy work. We have successfully made multiple uniform drillings and cortical abrasion on the sclerotic subchondral bone by using the Holmium:Yag
laser.
Laser-Asisted Arthroscopic Debridement 9;AAD) or the osteoarthritic knee joint which is easy to perform, thus timesaving procedure, gives less iatrogenic injury to otherwise normal tissue and allow the LAMP(Laser Abrasion Multiple Puncturing) for
cartilage regeneration, a new trial of cartilage enhancement.
